1-Working With Diagrams Flashcards
Directly related
Two variables are directly related if they change in the same way
Upward-sloping line
Inversely related
If the variables change in opposite ways.
One rises, other falls.
Downward-sloping line
Independent
Two variables are independent if as one changes, the other does not.
One variable rises as the other remains constant.
Slope
The ratio of the change in the variable on the vertical axis to the change in the variable on the horizontal axis.
The slope of a straight line is the same between every two points on the line.
When are two variables directly related?
When they change in the same way
GDP- Gross Domestic Product
The value of the entire output produced annually within a country’s borders
How to determine the slope of a curve at the point?
Draw a line tangent to the curve at the point and then determine the slope of the tangent line
45 degree line
Equidistant from the two axes
Pie chart
A convenient way to represent the different parts of something that when added together equal the whole.
It shows rough percentage breakdowns and relative relationships.
Bar chart
Represent relative relationships.
Line graph
Illustrating changes in a variable over some time period.
