Education is the process by which the collected knowledge of a culture is passed on to people in the UK between ages 5 and 16.
What is informal education
Informal education is done by parents in the home through normal activities.
What is formal education
Formal education is education done by school in institutions.
What are the historical reasons for the development of education

What is the functionalist debate on education
Functionalism is not critical of education, they see education as a system that sorts children into the best jobs. They see education as meritocratic and provides a ladder of opportunity for the best students.
What is the marxist debate on education
They view education as a source of social inequality and a tool to keep society unequal. This inequality in educational opportunity socialises people into accepting that some people have more wealth
What is the feminist debate on education
Feminists view the education system as oppressing women and suggests that it exists to socialise children into traditional gender patterns that increase gender inequality
what is the interactionist debate on education
They look at the relationship between students and teachers and how teachers label pupils as good or bad and how that leads to the self identity of pupils.
This theory can appear to be deterministic.

They focus on what happens inside schools and see how pupils and students are constructors of knowledge. this means schools are constructed for pupils and shows how values are passed on
