1 Wheel Chair Exam Flashcards
What is the Mat Table Exam?
Major of exam is done on the mat table in Supine
- highlights flexibility vs rigid deformity
- looks at pelvic, spine and hip alignments
Start in supine then move to seated
Finish with simulated seating (hand pressure)
How much is typical seat depth?
1-2 inches from popliteal space
How much is typical floor to seat height?
Aim for 2 in of foot clearance
Pelvic Obliquity
- named after the lower side of the pelvis (direction of obliquity)
- Often also has lateral flexion of spine
- (limits mobility of arm)
Pelvic Rotation
Named after the posterior half of the pelvis
Often also has a counter rotaiton of the spine
False leg length discrepancy
Principle 1
Stabilize proximally to promote improved distal mobility and function
- central focus is the pelvis
Principle 2
Maintain and achieve pelvic alignment
optimal positioning = slight anterior tilt w/o oblique positioning or rotation
WB on ischial tuberosities
Principle 3
Facilitate Optimal postural alignment in all body segmnts
Enhances: Stability, comfort, function
Do they attain optimal alignment independantly?
Principle 4
Limit abnormal movement and improve function
Principle 5
Provide the minimum support necessary to achieve anticipated goals and expected outcomes
If you lower expectations, provide equipment, and support, then individials will RELY on them
Principle 6
Provide comfort
can lead to afatigue, asymmetry, abnormal movement, AVOIDANCE
