How many types of teeth are there in the mouth?
There are two types of teeth in the mouth: deciduous teeth and permanent teeth.
What are deciduous teeth?
Deciduous teeth are small white teeth with short roots that usually appear from the sixth month and continue until around two and a half years of age.
How many deciduous teeth are there and how are they distributed?
There are 20 deciduous teeth, distributed with ten teeth in each jaw:
2 central incisors
2 lateral incisors
2 canines
4 molars
What are the characteristics of permanent teeth compared to primary teeth?
- Permanent teeth are relatively larger with long roots and are white or slightly yellowish in color.
- They usually begin to appear around the age of six.
How many permanent teeth are there, and how are they distributed in each jaw?
- There are a total of 32 permanent teeth.
- They are distributed as 16 in each jaw, with the following distribution:
- Central incisors: 2
- Lateral incisors: 2
- Canines: 2
- Premolars: 4
- Molars: 6
When does the first permanent molar appear, and when does it continue to erupt until?
- The first permanent molar appears behind the primary (deciduous) molars.
- It continues to erupt until around the age of 18.
