1 Title Flashcards
1 Title
Mass of vit C
2 Aim
to determine which out of three juices has the greatest concentration of vit C
UC 1
Vit C (Asorbic acid) reacts with iodine in the following redox reaction
C6H8O6 + I2 = C6H6O6 + 2H+ + 2I-
UC 2
a redox reaction is a reaction where oxidation (loss of e) and reduction (gain of e) happen at the same time
UC 3
reduction = I2 + 2e- = 2I-
UC 4
Full structure (on sheet)
UC 5
its clear from this format that where VIT c undergoes oxidation as well as e- being lost H is lost this can be expressed in an O-H ratio.
C6H8O6 = C6H6O6
3:4 1:1
UC 6
describe titration (end point is blue black)
method
Make a standard solution for each of the three juices titrate against iodine with a starch indicator record results and calculate mass of vit c no additional safety precautions needed
