1. Theories of Learning Flashcards
Theories of learning:
- Specific theories or models about individual domains
Byrnes, 2020
Define the OP model
general framework (not specific model). opportunity and propensity and antecedent factors. Opportunity- aspects of learning at home and school (promote learning). Propensity- characteristics that allow them to be prone to aquire skills
Antecedent Factors- factors that explin why children are exposed to more beneficial learning opps (ses)
a-o/p-outcome
can be a direct link between antecedent factors to outcome
o and p dont operate independently, kids with higher levels of P benefit more from O
How would you apply the OP model ?
there are many sets of OP factors which differ outcomes
model helpful?
1. allows us to consider why certain factors may be related to outcomes
2. identification potential interventions (consider why they may or may not be effective)
3. can be used to group different types of factors and helps with considering the impliations
example: reading- o=shared book reading, p- phonological processing, A-SES
brofenbrenner (1979)
ecological model of human developement
goes into depth about the influences on children from their enviornment, directly or indirectly with different levels
microsystem
mesosystem
exosystem
macrosystem
chronosystem
define each level of the ecological model of human dvelopement
micro- immediate enviornment (parents, siblings, friends)
exo- broader enviorment, structures (school)
macro- cultural and societal values (economy, gov)
meso- connections between elements of the mircosystem (relationships between school and family)
chrono- overtime influences (maturation, family changes and events in society)
positives of the ecological model
- allows us to understand broader influences on children and how they interact
- allows us to be aware of its effects
- differnent llevels of eniornment interact with the genetic, biological and cognitive characteristics of the child in in a reciprocol way
