When did Roosevelt die and why was this significant?
12th April 1945. WW2 was not ended till later that year.
How many years did Roosevelt serve?
12 years, making him the longest serving president of all time. Presided over the Great Depression and the Wall street crash 1929.
What are the powers of congress?
introduce new proposals for laws. control the budget. approve/ disapprove of presidential nominations to the supreme court. impeach the president if he is accused of a crime.
How is the US President prevented from having too much power?
Through lack of congress cooperation and a Supreme court that can rule President’s actions unconstitutional.
What was the new deal 1933-38?
A series of domestic programs introduced by Roosevelt to kick-start the economy and provide jobs, in response to the great depression.
Why was America a prosperous nation after the war?
Its rivals were badly damaged in the war = huge advantage in trade as other countries needed their goods and raw materials to rebuild. Repayment of loans recieved in post-war settlements (e.g. patents from Germany’s creation of Fanta).
What was the AFL and the CIO?
American Federation of Labour. the Congress of Industrial organisations. They defended workers rights and campaigned for higher wages which was hard to turn down during the war period. (TRADE UNIONS)
