Q

Explain why, “If you do not pray, you are not a theologian,” but also that theology cannot be reduced to spirituality.

A

Theology is a way of knowing and understanding and not just a way of feeling. It is intellectual as well, but if you don’t pray you cannot have a relation with God.

Q

How would Nichols respond to “Why don’t theologians simply explain what the pope and bishops teach? Why do they ask all those other questions?”

A

The basis of theological wonder. The riches of faith is the ever-new questions. The pope and bishops have not thought of all the questions much less the answers to them.

Q

What is the temptation of practicing historical theology?

A

“Positive Theology”

It doesn’t go far enough, nor does it engage faith. Rather, it is simply memorizing data about God.
