What is an ‘Estate’?
All the property owned by a person on their death
What are the 5 main types of property that pass outside the estate?
(1) Jointly held
(2) Trust
(3) Insurance policy written in trust

Jointly held property passes outside of the estate. What are 2 examples of this type of property?
(a) Beneficial JOINT TENANTS

What type of life insurance policy does NOT form part of the estate?
Written in trust
A life insurance policy is written in trust by Mark for his wife Sally. If Mark dies what will happen?
Money paid directly to Sally as beneficiary (i.e. outside of estate)
