What are 4 features that may help to identify last few days of life
- Diminished food and fluid intake
- Decrease swallowing
- Profound weakness
- Diminished cognition
What should doctor’s do in the last few days of life
- Recognise patient is dying and communicate this clearly and sensitively
- Make decisions in accordance with patient’s needs
- Review interventions and decisions
- Explore needs of those close to the patient
What is the abbey pain scale
Describes how much pain an individual is in when they are unable to communicate they rpain
What is the eCOG performance scale
Describes individuals level of functioning and ability to care for themselves in cancer
What is grade 0 eCOG
- Full pre-condition activity
What is grade 1 eCOG
- Restricted activity still ambulatory
- Fulfill light work
What is grade 2 eCOG
- Unable to fulfil work
- Ambulatory and can complete self-care
- Out of bed >50%
What is grade 3 eCOG
- Confined to bed or chair 50%
- Limited self-care
What is grade 4 eCOG
- Completely disabled
- No self-care
What is grade 5 eCOG
- Dead
