1: Science and Technology Flashcards
How does mass impact the distance travelled by an object?
Friction! More mass = more friction.
Density-Mass-Volume
M
D | V
triangle
Newton’s first law of motion
Law of inertia.
An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion until a greater force is acted upon it.
Newton’s second law of motion
Force = mass x acceleration
Newton’s third law of motion
When 2 objects interact, they apply forces of equal magnitude and opposite direction.
Types of rock
Igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic
Igneous rocks
Form when molten rock (magma, lava) cools and solidifies.
Sedimentary rocks
Particles settle out of water or air, or by precipitation of minerals from water. They accumulate in layers.
Metamorphic rocks
Existing rocks are changed by heat, pressure, or reactive fluids.
Lamarckism
aka theory of acquired characteristics
Traits developed by an organism during life will pass on to offspring.
Trophic levels
Quarternary consumer Tertiary consumer Secondary consumer Primary consumer Producer aka autotroph
Facultative carnivores
Those that eat non-animal food in addition to animal food (basically omnivores) – ex. dogs.
Detritivore
An organism that feeds on waste products, or organic material
Bill of rights
First 10 amendments to the constitution
