1 pt. perspective Flashcards
Draftsperson
A person who makes mechanical drawings (examples: architectural and engineering).
Vanishing point
Imaginary points on the horizon line in 1 pt. Perspective. Lines that recede from an objects’ corner converge to this point.
Picture plane
A plane is a flat or level surface; thus, a picture plane is an imaginary transparent plane that is between the viewer and the subject depicted in the picture (artwork)
Horizon line
Also known as the “Eye Level Line.” This line is drawn across the page and represents the eye level of the viewer. The height of the horizon line changes depending on the viewer’s height; therefore, changes the view of the subject.
Eye level line
The vantage point of the spectator (viewer, artist, or draftsperson).
Parallel lines
Two lines that are equidistant distance from one another and never intersect.
Receding
Moving away from the viewer. (The opposite of receding is advancing)
Converging lines
Parallel lines that recede from an object towards a single vanishing point.
Ground line
The bottom of the picture plane.
Orthogonal Lines
Imaginary or lightly drawn guidelines in a perspective drawing. They are usually the parallel lines that converge as they recede towards the vanishing point.
Line of Sight
An imaginary line traveling from the eye of the spectator to infinity.
Vertex
a corner or a point where lines meet. The plural form of vertex is vertices.
