1. Programming and Site Analysis Flashcards
Interviewing
One of the most valuable ways to collect information.
Questionnaires
Written forms, useful for large groups of people or when resources do not allow for interviews. They should be tested before their release to a larger group.
Observation
One of the most reliable ways to collect data. May lead to pumping to conclusions. They are used to verify information from interviews and surveys.
Field Surveys
Method of determining existing conditions of a space. Part of due diligence site investigation.
Precedent Studies
Process of looking at previously complete designs as a guide for problem solving.
Case Studies
Detailed analysis of existing projects that is similar to the proposed project.
Benchmarking
Compares project data to data sets from other successful projects. Compares new projects to the best in the field in order to determine sucess.
EDM
Electronic Distance Measurement - Accurate to 1/64” at 1600 ft. Requires 2 people to operate.
Tape Measures
Suitable for many uses but are being replaced by more accurate methods
REDM
Reflectorless Electronic Distance Measurement- accurate to 1/8” at 100 ft. DOes not require a prism reflector.
Rectified Photography
Flat image with no distortion, taken with a large-format film camera. Allows measurement of items not easily hand-measured.
Orthophotography
Similar to rectified but is done digitally.
Photogrammetry
Surveying of objects or spaces by using photography and associated software.
Stereophotogrammetry
Two overlapping photographs used to produce a stero-image. Can then be used to create a 3D model.
Convergent Photogrammetry
Multiple oblique photgraphs taken at different angles in order to create a 3D model. Accuracy of 0.05%
