How can you obtain the momentum of an extended material object that occupies a region of space?
Break it up into infinitesimal pieces of mass, dm and determine the momentum of these pieces
- The sum together the momentums to get the total (integrate)
What is the moment of the momentum called?
The angular momentum
What is the conservation of linear momentum?
The rate of change of total momentum must equal the total external unbalanced force on the object
What is the conservation of angular momentum?
The rate of change of angular momentum must be equal to the net torque on a body
What is the rule for dimensional analysis?
The dimension of a product of physical quantities is the product of the dimensions of the individual multiplicands
What are tensors?
A generalization of vectors which have more than 3 components in 3 directions
What are tensors of rank 0 and rank 1?
Rank 0 - Scalars
Rank 1 - Vectors
