1. Power Supply Flashcards
What kind of power does radio equipment require?
Radio equipment requires DC power
What does a TRU do?
AC output of the engine driven generator is converted to DC by a Transformer Rectifier Unit (TRU).
What does a TRU consist of?
TRU consists of a transformer, a rectifier, and a smoothing circuit.
What does a transformer do?
It changes the voltage of AC
It cannot change voltage of DC
What does a rectifier do?
Changes AC into DC
What does the smoothing circuit do?
The smoothing circuit refines the rectifier output to a smooth DC current
What does the constant voltage circuit (voltage regulator) do?
Minimises the fluctuations of rectifier output voltage.
What does an inverter do?
It produces AC from DC
What does a converter do?
It changes DC voltage.
How does a converter work?
It contains a circuit to change DC into AC, a transformer to change AC voltage, and a circuit to rectify the AC back to DC.
DC -> Inverter -> AC -> Transformer ->Rectifier -> DC
