1. Populations Flashcards
Micro habitats
Smaller unit within each habitat
Habitat
A place where organisms lives
Ecosystems
Made up of all interacting biotic and abiotic features in a habitat.
Niche
Describes how an organism fits into a environment. Where it lives and what it does there.
Populations
A group of interbreeding organisms of one species in a habitat.
Biotic
Living components:
Competition, predation and disease.
Abiotic
Non living components:
Temperature, light intensity, pH, humidity, rainfall etc.
Community
Population of different species
Biosphere
Life supporting layer of land, air and water.
Ecology
Study of inter-relationship between organisms and their environment.
Abundance
Number of individuals of a species in a habitat.
Random sampling
A way to sample to avoid any bias in collection of data.
Systematic sampling
Use a set of coordinates.
Quadrant types:
Frame quadrat and point quadrat.
How to calculate abundance of animals.
◽️Capture
◽️Mark them (the ankle, under the wing, ear, collar)
◽️Release them back to their habitat
◽️Recapture (season, month or weeks later)
