Commutative property
Order doesn’t matter!
a + b = b + a
a x b = b x a
Associative property
Order doesn’t matter! 3+ numbers
a + b + c = b + c + a
a x b x c = b x c x a
Distributive property
Distribute the numbers! a x (b + c) = a x b + a x c
Identity property
Any number plus 0 equals itself
Any number times 1 equals itself
x + 0= x
x x 1 = x
Inverse property
Number plus negative itself equals 0 Number times 1/itself equals 1 a + -a = 0 a x 1/a = 1 (if a =/= 0)

Dividing exponents
a^x over a^y = a ^ (x-y)
Multiplying exponents
a^x X a^y = a^ (x + y)
Power of a fraction rule
(a/b)^c = a^c over b^c
