1) Investigation Flashcards
1
Q
What is a good aim?
A
- Understand the experiment
- Be specific about the key objectives, To study plants -> To understand the effect of temperature on plant growth
- Start with an action verb, to determine, measure, compare, analyze
*Needs to be concise so 2 sentences max
2
Q
How to write a good hypothesis
A
- State purpose of experiment
- Identify variables
- If [Independent variable], then [expected outcome from dependent variable]
*Be specific and predictive - Talk about why you think these outcomes would happen
- It could be proven false
- Straight forward.
3
Q
How to write a good independent variable
A
- Use units
- See if it can be plotted on the x axis of the graph
- State range or levels
*Be specific
4
Q
How to write a good dependent variable
A
- Use units
- See if it can be plotted on the y axis of the graph
- State range or measurement criteria
*Ensure observability
5
Q
How to write a good conclusion
A
*State purpose of the experiment
*Talk about if your expectation is similar to your result
*Specific example of your result including numbers, averages, or any other measuring unit.
*Result analysis, is it proportional?
*Graph, positive/negative gradient? Why does it happen.
*Anomaly, why did it happen, how could you fix it next time, and what other reasons are there for an anomaly to happen.
*prediction based off the graph’s trend, estimate future values
