Three types of name for any given drug
Chemical name, generic, trade/brand name
Deleterious vs non-deleterious effects of drugs
Non-deleterious: side effects (hair loss, itching, nausea, minor swelling)
Deleterious: toxic effects (can be pharmacologic, pathological, or genotoxic)
Pharmaceutical equivalence vs pharmaceutical alternative
Equivalence: same ingredients + concentration + route
Alternative: same drug, different route, strength, or complexes
Therapeutic equivalence
Pharmaceutical equivalent + has same clinical effect + safety profile
Bioequivalence
Similar rate/extent of absorption + 80-125% of reference product
