1- Intro Flashcards
Describe the pericardium
FIBROSEROUS sac surrounding the heart AND
its great vessels
• Consists of TWO layers
• FIBROUS and SEROUS layers
• Serous layer has TWO parts:
Parietal - lines the fibrous layer of the pericardium
Visceral - adheres to the heart
Describe the arteries off the aortic arch
Brachiocephalic trunk bifurcates into the Right subclavian artery and the Right common carotid artery
Describe the braciocephalic veins
The Right internal jugular vein and the right subclavian vein join together to form the Right Brachiocephalic Vein
• The Left internal jugular vein an the Left subclavian vein join together to form the Left Brachiocephalic Vein
• Both brachiocephalic veins join together the form the Superior Vena Cava
Describe the cusps that make up the valves
Tricuspid Valve: Anterior Cusp Septal Cusp Posterior Cusp • Pulmonary Valve Anterior Semilunar Cusp Left Semilunar Cusp Right Semilunar Cusp
• Mitral Valve:
Mitral Valve Anterior Cusp
Mitral Valve Posterior Cusp
Where do the coronary arteries originate from
Points of Origin of the Coronary Arteries = just above the aortic valve
RIGHT coronary artery = just above the RIGHT cusp of the aortic valve LEFT coronary artery = just above the LEFT cusp of the aortic valve
What are some important anatomical terms
Anterior (ventral not exactly the same)
•Posterior (dorsal not exactly the same)
•Superior (cranial, rostral)
•Inferior (caudal)
•Midline (median) means mid-sagittal •Medial •Lateral •Proximal (towards body) Distal (away from body)
Frontal (coronal)
Sagittarius (side view)
Horizontal/ transverse/ axial (from feet to head)
