1 INTEGERS Flashcards
Define
INTEGERS
Integers are a bigger collection of numbers which is formed by whole numbers and their negatives.
……..-4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4…..
How many properties do the Addition and Substraction of Integers have?
FOUR
- Closure property under Addition
- Closure property under Substraction
- Commutative property
- Associative property
What is Additive identity?
Whe we add zero to any whole number, we get the same whole number. Zero is an additive identity for whole numbers.
Is the additive identity property applicable to Integers?
Yes. Additive property says that when we add zero to any whole number, we get the same whole number. When zero is added to an integer we get the same integer.
Define the Closure property under addition.
Integers are closed under addition because addition of integers gives integers.
Integers are closed under substraction
If a and b are integers then a - b is also an integer
Define Closure property under Substraction.
Integers are closed under Substraction because Substraction of integers give integers.
Integers are closed under substraction
If a and b are integers then a - b is also an integer
Define Commutastive property of
Integers
Whole numbers can be added in any order.
3 + 5 = 5 + 3 = 8
Integers can also be added in any order.
Hence we can say that addition is commutative for integers.
Define associative property in Integers.
a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c
Re-grouping of numbers while adding give the same result.
Addition is associative for integers
What is additive identity
When we add zero to any whole number, we get the same whole number. Zero is an additive identity for whole numbers.
