1) Homeostasis Flashcards
a. Define the term homeostasis
The body’s ability to maintain a relatively stable internal environment in response to changing internal or external conditions
b. Why is homeostasis important?
It keeps the body regulated and balanced
Understand homeostatic reflex:set point, integrating/control center, afferent/efferent signals and effectors
Set point: level at which variable is maintained
Control center: analyzes and determines response
Receptor: detects and responds to environmental change
Afferent: bringing in information to control center
Efferent: information exits control center to give response
What is positive and negative feedback? Know specific examples of each type of feedback and how they differ from one another
Negative feedback: prevents the change from happening in your body (blood glucose levels)
Positive feedback: enhances the change in your body and wants it to happen (child labor
