1- Histology of the nervous system - week 1 Flashcards
What are the three parts of the central nervous system (CNS) and what type of matter they contain ?
1- Brain - cortex, gray matter
2- cerebellum - medulla, white matter
3- medulla spinals - gray and white matter
What dose the gray matter contain ?
• Nerve cell bodies
• Glial cells (except fibrous astrocytes)
• Blood cells
What dose the white matter contain ?
• Miyelinated axons
• Glial cells (except protoplasmic astrocytes)
• blood vessels
What are the visible characteristics of the brain ?
There are visible indentations ( hollow parts ) and protrusions ( sticking out ) on the brain surface
What are protrusions and indentations on the surface of the brain are called ?
Protrusions GYRUS
Indentations are defined as SULKUS.
Where are never cell bodies only found in ?
In gray matter
What is the nuclei ?
It is a cluster of neurons in the form of islands in the brain and cerebellum .
What is found in both white and gray matter ?
Neuroglia
What happens when myelinated fibers in the CNS are stained with luxol- fast blue or weigert ?
white matter is well distinguished macroscopically
What are
How are myelinated fibers in the white matter stained blue-green ?
They are stained by Luxol-Fast blue and black with Weigert dye.
How are organs protected ?
They are protected by the membranes and bones around them. The membranes are made from fibroblast and collagen fiber bundles.
What are the three membranes that cover the organs from outside to inside ?
- Duramater
- Arachnoid
- Piamater
What is the histological structure of Duramater (pakimeninks) ?
connective tissue with many collagen fibrils, few elastic fibrils and fibroblasts located parallel to each other.
Are there are a small amount of blood
vessels and sensory nerves in the duramater ?
Yes
Are there are a small amount of blood
vessels and sensory nerves in the duramater ?
Yes
What is in the side facing the arachnoid ?
Flat mesothelial cells .
