(1) Describe Cloud Computing Flashcards
(1) Describe Cloud Concepts
The delivery of computing services over the internet. You can choose the power and features to fit your need and only need to pay for the services you use.
Cloud Computing
PowerHow much processing your computer can do.
Compute
The volume of data you can store on your computer.
Storage
Physical security, power, cooling and network connectivity are the responsibility of the cloud provider. The consumer is collocated with the datacenter, so it wouldn’t make sense for the consumer to have any of those responsibilities. The consumer is responsible for the data and information stored in the cloud, and access security to the information.
Shared Responsibility Model
Most of the responsibility falls on consumer.
Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
Evenly distributed responsibility.
Platform as a service (PaaS)
Most of the responsibility falls on the cloud provider.
Software as a service (SaaS)
It’s a cloud used by a single entity. It provides much greater control for the company and its IT department. However, its comes with a greater cost (CAPEX)
Private Cloud
Built, controlled and maintained by a third-party cloud provider. With this cloud, anyone that wants to purchase cloud services can access and use resources (OPEX)
Public Cloud
Can be used to allow a private cloud to surge for increased, temporary demand by deploying public cloud resources. An example would be Azure Arc or Azure Stack.
Hybrid Cloud
It is typically a one-time, up-front expenditure to purchase or secure tangible resources. A new building, repaving the parking lot, building a datacenter, or buying a company vehicle are examples.
CapEx (Capital Expenditure)
This is spending money on services or products over time. Renting a convention center, leasing a company vehicle, or signing up for cloud services are all examples.
OpEx (Operational Expenditure)
No upfront costs. No need to purchase and manage costly infrastructure that users might not use to its fullest potential. The ability to pay for more resources when they’re needed. The ability to stop paying for resources that are no longer needed.
Benefits of OpEx
It is a PaaS service type; the customer pays for the work that is done to achieve specific goal or function; it is event-driven.
What is “serverless”?
You have established configurations for development and test environments that you need to rapidly replicate. You can stand up or shut down the different environments rapidly with an IaaS structure, while maintaining complete control.
