A

Something that varies
e.g. ask people their favourite ice-cream flavour, the answer will vary as you ask different people, so the ice-cream flavour is the variable

A

Describes the quality of a variable
e.g. colour, texture, scent, emotion, opinion

A

Data that is number based
- split into discrete and continuous data

Discrete data

A

“Stepped” data where there are no values between the allowed values
- type of quantitative data
e.g. shoe size

Continuous data

A

Opposite of discrete data, there are infinitely many values between the ones we write down
- type of quantitative data
e.g. height, weight

A

Data that has already been put into categories
e.g. egg size; small, medium, large

A

Subset of categorical data where the categories have a natural order
e.g. very unhappy, unhappy, neutral, happy, very happy

A

Data that has two values attached to it
- will mostly be quantitative
