1 - CPR Flashcards
Rate of compressions
100-120
Infant vs Child depth of compressions
Infant - 1.5 inches
Child - 2 inches
Adolescent - 2 inches
(no more than 2.4 inches)
What is the compression ration once advanced airway is in place?
CONTINUOUS
Each rescue breath should be given over…
1 second
No advanced airway in place and a single rescuer compression rate
30:2
No advanced airway in place and 2 or more rescuers compression rate
15:2
Advanced airway in place - what are breaths?
10 breaths per minute
1 BREATH EVERY 6 SECONDS w/ continuous chest compressions
What is shock refractory VF
Ongoing myocardial ischemia fostering electrical instability
“ELECTRICAL STORM”
Myocardium is extremely resistant to stabilization
What drug is not a choice for RVF
Epi
Why is EPI not a choice for RVF
Some studies show - It increases myocardial oxygen demand due to (ionotropic and chronotropic effects) leading to exacerbation of myocardial eschemia.
It may contribute to myocardial dysfunction and electrical instability.
Sympathetic SURGE
Where to check pulse on infant
Brachial Pulse
Where to check pulse on child
Carotid/Femoral
Infant chest compression…
2 fingers
Child chest compression…
1 or 2 hands.
Signs of Poor Perfusion
Temperature: Cool extremities
AMS: Continued decline in consciousness/responsiveness
Pulses: Weak
Skin: Pale, Mottling, Cyanosis
What position do you place an infants head
sniffing position - neutral
To avoid airway from becoming blocked
External ear canal is level with the top of the infant’s shoulder
When sudden cardiac arrest happens in adult what is the oxygen content…
The blood oxygen content is able to meet the demands of the body for the first few minutes after arrest
When sudden cardiac arrest happens in infants or children what is the oxygen content…
Often PRIOR to arrest a child/infant has RF or shock that reduces the oxygen content in the blood even before the onset of arrest.
Important both COMPRESSIONS and BREATHS
Victim 8 years or older what pads for AED?
Adult
Victim younger than 8 years pads for AED?
Children
PAT
Appearance, WOB, Circulation
TICLS
Tone, interactiveness, consolability, look/gaze, speech
Primary Assessment
ABCDE approach
Secondary Assessment
A focused medical hx and a focused physical exam
Diagnostic Assessment
Lab, radiographic, advanced tests
