definition and types of polyps
A
- majority of colorectal carcinomas evolve from adenomatous polyps, this sequence of events is the adenoma-carcinoma sequence.
- polyp = non-specific clinical term that describes any projection from the surface of the intestinal mucosa REGARDLESS of the histologic nature.
- TYPES:
neoplastic -> tubular adenoma, villous adenoma, tubulovillous adenoma
hamartomatous -> juvenile, Peutz-Jeghers, Cronkite-Canada
inflammatory -> pseudopolyp, benign lymphoid polyp
hyperplastic.
