25
Q
  • Describe the general framework for information systems: define and describe the components of this framework: the IT systems, the IT management and IT governance.
A

(kubus)
IT systems (center) = has various domains. This includes hardware, software, data, networks, and infrastructure that enable the processing and management of information within an organization.
IT management (forecasting)= This involves the operational, service-oriented, security-related, and project-focused aspects of managing IT resources and activities within an organization.
IT governance (procedure)= This encompasses the strategic planning, policy development, risk management, and performance measurement aspects of overseeing and directing IT initiatives to align with organizational goals and priorities.
Together, these components enable organizations to effectively use and manage IT resources to achieve their business objectives.
Life cycle= from conception to decommissioning
Concerns= stakeholders worries and issues; security, maintainability, performance of IT.

26
Q
  • Describe the four domains of an information system, part of the general framework for information systems. Also describe the relationships between the domains.
A

(vis2)
Business processes= This domain focuses on the activities and workflows that occur within an organization to achieve its objectives. It involves the identification, analysis, design, implementation, and optimization of business processes. Key components within this domain include process modeling techniques, business process management (BPM) software, workflow automation tools, and process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or Lean.
Applications= The applications domain encompasses the software systems and applications used to support various business functions and processes. It includes enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, customer relationship management (CRM) software, supply chain management (SCM) applications, and other industry-specific software solutions. Additionally, it involves custom-developed applications, mobile apps, web applications, and integrations between different software systems.
Data= This domain focuses on the management, storage, processing, and analysis of data within the information system. It includes databases, data warehouses, data lakes, data governance policies, data quality management practices, and data analytics tools. Additionally, it involves data modeling techniques, data security measures, data privacy regulations compliance, and data integration strategies.
Infrastructure= The infrastructure domain comprises the hardware, networking, and computing resources that support the operation of the information system. It includes servers, storage devices, networking equipment (routers, switches), data centers, cloud computing resources, and virtualization technologies. Additionally, it involves network architecture design, system administration, disaster recovery planning, and cybersecurity measures to ensure the reliability, availability, and security of the infrastructure.
Relationship ; ?
Integration: The domains are interconnected and rely on each other to function effectively. For example, applications rely on data stored in databases, which in turn are supported by the underlying infrastructure.
Alignment: Business processes drive the requirements for applications and data, which in turn dictate the infrastructure needed to support them. Therefore, there should be alignment between business processes, applications, data, and infrastructure to meet organizational goals.
Optimization: Continuous improvement efforts in one domain can have cascading effects on other domains. For instance, optimizing business processes may require enhancements to applications or adjustments to data management practices.

27
Q

The life cycle describes the different phases an information system evolves through. Describe each of the phases of the life cycle of an information system.

A

(vis3)
conception= Starting point Role of system in business General vision Global requirements
architecture= Overall description Subsequent models
development= Build system Use methodology Assemble and test
roll-out= Make system operational Install and configure Conversion from old to new Training
operations= Use system, Support and maintenance
decommissioning= End of useful life Remove system Security, environment, licensing, …

37
Q
  • Describe the IT management activities.
A

IT management is built around IS. U have activities for project management life cycle. Rest of activities are ongoing management activities. Project is for a limited time, w a clear end. So, there is a difference between both type of activities.

38
Q

Hiring a new system engineer

A

HRM

39
Q

Creating the cost budget for next fiscal year

A

Financial Management

40
Q
  • Evaluating three offers from companies for new server hardware
A

Supplier management (selecting, contracting, and managing relationships with external vendors and supplier)

41
Q

Updating the services descriptions in the service catalog

A

Services delivery management

42
Q

Defining service levels for the new database service

A

Quality Management (ensuring that IT services meet the required standards of quality and performance.)

43
Q

Describe the IT governance activities

A

3 important aspects ;
Business IT alignment= consider the type of business you are in to decide whether the IT follows the business or vice versa. This activity involves ensuring that IT strategies, initiatives, and investments are closely aligned with the organization’s overall business goals and objectives.
Set up, maintain IT decision structures = how will you buy new IS, documenting how decision are made. This activity involves establishing governance mechanisms and structures to facilitate effective decision-making and oversight of IT resources and initiatives.
Exert control= people and processing are behaving in the way they should be behaving. And u can use a COBIT framework. This activity involves implementing control mechanisms to ensure that IT resources are used efficiently, risks are managed effectively, and compliance requirements are met.

44
Q
  • Describe the stakeholder concerns. What is the difference between the business concerns and the system concerns?
A

Business concerns revolve around the strategic goals, operational needs, and financial objectives of the organization. System concerns are related to the technical aspects, functionality, performance, and usability of the system itself.

1) Business Concerns (stakeholders)
* Products and Services
*Economic aspects
- project costs
- operational costs
- benefit
*Compliance
- w law
- w regulations

2) System Concerns
*Service levels
- min quality requirements
- quantitative thus measurable
*Usability
- user friendliness
- maintainabilty
- administrator
- scalability
*Security
- authentication
- autorisation
- confidentiality
+ integrity
+ non-repudiation

45
Q
  • What are the main economic concerns with IT systems?
A
  • Project cost : of building IT system
  • Operational (recurring) cost : running cost of IT system
  • Benefits : benefits of IT system
46
Q
  • Give four aspects of usability
A
  • User friendliness
  • Maintainability
  • Administrator
  • Scalability
47
Q
  • What are the three basic pillars of security in IT? Give a brief description of each.
A
  • Authentication: who is who?
  • Authorization: what are you allowed to do and what not?
  • Confidentiality: you should not see what you are not allowed to see.
