1 care giver interactions ao1 and ao3 Flashcards
What is ‘reciprocity’
- refers to how two people interact, e.g responding to each others signals and eliciting a reponse from one another
what is interactional synchrony
when people behaviour is in unison
what is a caregiver- infant interaction
social interactions required to develop an attachment between a baby and their caregiver
what is a study for interactional synchrony
meltzoff and moore
what was their aim
to see if parents and babies demostrate interactional synchrony
what was the procedure
an adult displayed 1 of 3 facial expressions , Childs responses was filmed and identified by independent observers
what was the conclusion
babies are able to synchronise their actions with adults
strength 1
P - interactions are usually filmed in a lab
E - means other things that can distract a baby is controlled, also using films means observations can be recorded and analysed later on, unlikely they will miss key behaviours,
E - babies dont know when they’re being observed, so their behaviour does not change in response to being observed
L - therefore the data will have good relability and validity
limitation 1
P - hard to interpret a baby’s behaviour
E - lack co ordination, movements being observed are small hand movements or subtle changes in expression , difficult to be sure
E - e.g whether a baby is smiling or just passing wind, also we can’t tell what’s happening from babies prespective e.g hand twitch is random or triggered by something caregiver has done
L -
