What does anatomical position mean?
Is a basic position that can be used as a preference point.
- Head facing forward
- Feet parallel
- Arms hanging by the side
- Palms facing forward.
What does anterior mean?
Anterior is the front of the body.
What does posterior mean?
Posterior is the back of the body.
What does ventral mean?
Ventral is the back of the body.
What does dorsal mean?
Dorsal is the back of the body.
What does lateral mean?
Away from the median line.
What does median mean?
Close to the median line.
What does the midline / median line mean?
Invisible line which goes through the centre of the body.
What does Proximal mean ?
Closer to the origin of point or point of attachment of the joint.
What does distal mean?
Farther from the origin or point of attachment of the limb
What does superficial mean?
Towards the surface of the body
What does deep mean?
Away from the surface of the body.
What is another word for superior?
Cranial or Cephalad
What does the superior mean?
Towards the head or above.
What is another word for inferior?
Caudal
What does inferior or caudal mean?
Away from the head or below.
