1-Basics Flashcards
What is a network?
Its a digital telecommunications network that allows nodes to share resources
What is an End-Host
It’s either a server or a client.
PC 1 sends photos to PC 2 which of them is the server and which one is the client?
PC 1: Server
PC 2: Client
Name the node that utilizes a service from a server.
Client
Name the node that provides a service.
Server
Can the same device be both a server and a client?
yes
What do you use to connect two different networks?
A Router
What do you use to create a LAN?
A Switch
Name two Cisco enterprise switches.
1- Catalyst 9200
2- Catalyst 3650
Why use a switch for a LAN and can it connect to other LANs?
1- They have many ports to connect multiple interfaces
2- No
How many ports does a switch have usually?
24 or more
Name some Cisco routers.
1- ISR 1000
2- ISR 900
3- ISR 4000
Describe routers.
1 - Routers have less ports that switches
2 - Routers connect entire networks or LANs.
What do you use to protect a network?
A Firewall.
Should you put the firewall inside or outside the LAN?
You can put them inside and outside at the same time
Give some examples of Cisco Firewalls.
1- ASA500-X
2- Firepower 2100
Describe Firewalls.
1- They monitor and control network traffic based on configured rules
2- They be placed inside or outside the network.
What are Next-Generation Firewalls?
They are firewalls that provide modern and advance filtering capabilities.
Differentiate between Network firewalls and host-based firewalls.
Network firewalls are hardware based and they monitor traffic between networks
host-based firewalls are software applications that monitor and filter traffic entering and exiting a host machine
Cognitive: A phone receiving a photo from a server is called an end host
Partly true, an end host is either a server or a client so the phone is called a client
Cognitive: What do you use when you want to connect end hosts to network
a switch
