Aetiology, etiology (USA):
The cause of a disease and its predispositions e.g. cigarette smoke is an aetiological agent in cancer.

What things look like i.e. the histology or gross appearances
Oncology:
1857, coined in Eng. from Mod.L. onco- “tumor,” from Gk. onkos “mass, bulk” + Eng. -logy “science or study of,” from Gk. logia, from logos “word.”

Pathogenesis:
Mechanism of disease progression
Pathogenicity:
Ability (high, low, etc.) of a micro-organism to cause disease
Pathological:
Diseased, disordered, or abnormal
Pathology:
The branch of medicine that looks at abnormal changes in cells and tissues which signal disease.
Pathophysiology:
Study of the function of tissue under pathological conditions
