Exposition
The introduction of a story, where the characters and setting are first described
Theme
Noun: The central message of a text - it can be a lesson or moral
Explicit
Adjective: Stated clearly and directly
Inference
Noun: A conclusion reached by evidence and reasoning
Evidence
Noun: A fact used to support a statement or inference. Evidence can be an example, anecdote, statistic, quote, or expert opinion.
Informative Text
Noun: A type of writing in which an author presents facts and details in a way that allows a reader to understand a topic.
Point of View
Noun: 1) The perspective from which a story is narrated; OR 2) what a narrator believes or feels about their topic or story.
Common Noun
Noun: A general person, place, or thing
Proper Noun
Noun: A specific person, place, or thing
Figurative Language
Noun: A literary device that uses words and expressions to express a meaning in a non-literal way.
Simile
Noun: A comparison of two things using the words “like” or “as”.
Metaphor
Noun: A direct comparison of two things WITHOUT using the words “like” or “as”.
Personification
Noun: A literary device in which human characteristics are given to something that is not human.
Argument
Noun: A logical way of presenting a belief, conclusion, or stand on an issue
