1. A.) Research Methods Flashcards
What is evidence?
“the available body of facts or information indicating that a belief or proposition is true or valid. The information is generally presented as data - either Quant or Qual.
What is global health research?
Research that generates evidence to guide
planning, decision-making, and priority setting in
global health.
What is the cycle for evidence generation?
- Define health priorities.
- Understanding the causes.
- Developing the intervention.
- Implementing the intervention.
- Evaluating health outcomes.
What is epidemiology?
The systematic study of the distribution
of health-related events and their determinants in
populations.
What are the goals of epidemiology?
- Describe the observed distribution.
- Explain the distribution.
- To develop and test interventions.
What are the two epidemiological core concepts?
- Exposure (determinant)
2. Outcome
What is statistics?
- The science of collecting, summarising, analysing and
interpreting data - Essential to planning, analysing and understanding
epidemiological studies - Testing hypotheses and allowing valid inferences to be made
from a random sample to the population that the random
sample was selected from.
What is qualitative research?
• Qualitative research
investigates the why and how
(things happen the way they
do). It can be performed through questioning either the meaning or the process.
