Q

What characteristics do all living things share & why are they important?

1.1

A
  • All living organisms share the same characteristics “MRS GRENC”
  • If something does not carry out these life processes/characteristics, it is either dead or non-living. Ex. Viruses
  • Movement, Respiration, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition, Control

Q

What is RESPIRATION?

1.1

A
  • Definition:

-All chemical processes that occur within an organism to keep it alive.

-A set of chemical reactions in cells of living organisms, that breaks down nutrient molecules to produce/release energy for metabolism.

  • Energy is released from glucose, either in

the presence of oxygen - aerobic respiration (glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water)

the absence of oxygen - anaerobic respiration

  • Energy is transferred in the form of ATP
