1 Flashcards
What are the 2 parts of the nervous system, what do they consist of?
1) central nervous system (CNS)
Brain, spinal cord
2) peripheral nervous system (PNS)
•Cranial nerves from the brain
•Spinal nerves from the spinal cord
What does CNS do?
Controls all body activities
What the meninges?
The 3 layers that cover the brain and spinal cord
What are the 3 layers of meanings?
- Outer layer > Dura mater
- Middle layer > Arachnoid
- Inner layer > Pis mater
What is the function of the meninges?
- protection to the brain and spinal cord
- acts as a barrier against bacteria and microorganisms
What’s the function of PNS?
Carry massages to and from the CNS
PNS has 2 types of nervous which are?
- sensory nerves (in)
- motor nerves (out)
What does PNS consist of?
- 12 pairs of cranial nerves
- 32 pairs of spinal nerves
- 8 pairs of cervical
- 12 pairs of thoracic
- 5 pairs of lumbar
- 5 pairs of sacral
- 1 pair of coccygeal
PNS is subdivided into what?
- Somatic nervous system (voluntary)
* Autonomic nervous system (involuntarily)
What is the single longest nerve in the body?
Sciatic nerve
