1-8 Flashcards
Engine Electrical system purpose
Provides electrical power to the engine performance indicators
Engine Speed indicator
provides visual flight station/cockpit indication of compressor rotor revolutions-per-minutre
Tachometer
Indicates engine compressor rotor RPM in percent
located in cock pit
Tachometer generator
mounted and splined to accessory gearbox
Tachometer Generator creates
electrical reference signal that represents the rotational speed of engine compressor
Engine temperature indicating system purpose
provides a visual indication of engine exhaust gas temperature
Thermocouple Assembly Mounted
in turbine or exhaust section
Thermocouples are made of
alumel and chromel
when heated, Alumel and Chromel will
create small voltage that is directly proportional to engine exhaust temp
Reference voltage is transmitted to the
indicator in cockpit
Engine temp indicator
displays temp in celsius or fahrenheit
Fuel flow indicating system purpose
Indicates amount of fuel being consumed by the engine in Pounds-Per-Hours (PPH)
Fuel flow transmitter mounted
on the engine
Fuel flow transmitter provides
electrical signal that is directly proportion to mass rate of fuel flow. transmits to cock pit
Fuel flow indicator displays
displays signals as fuel flow in Pounds Per Hour
Oil Pressure indicating system prupose
provides visual cockpit indicator of engine oil pressure in pounds per square inch PSI
Oil pressure transmitter sends
a proportional electrical signal to cockpit.
Mounted on engine
Engine fire detection system purpose
will alert pilot of engine bay fire or overheat condition
Fire detection element senses
overheat condition or fire and transmits a signal to cockpit
Fire warnin light
receives signal from fire detection element and activates warning light
Starting system purpose
provides initial rotation to accelerate the engine to point where ignition can be accomplished and sustained
Ignition system purpose
provides high energy spark at engine ignitor plugs and initiates combustion of fuel/air mixture during start
Ignition system type
High Energy(Capacitor Discharge). Spark must be constant under varying conditions
Ignition system components INPUT LEADS
delivers input power from aircraft system or from external power source to transform
