1,5 dicarbonyl relationships Flashcards
Synthesis, use of enamines and the Robinson annulation
1
Q
Outline the mechanism for the formation of a 1,5 dicarbonyl species from an enone and a aldehyde/ketone
A

2
Q
What is the challenge when synthesising 1,5 dicarbonyl species
A
Electrophilicity of the beta carbon
3
Q
What does the Robinson annulation involve
A
Michael addition followed by an aldol reaction in which the alcohol is lost
4
Q
Example mechanism for the Robinson annulation
A

5
Q
Outline the mechanism for proton transfer
A
Involves the transfer of protons to exchange between enolate forms. Has to go via the ketone/aldehyde as the system is usually in base and cannot just ‘pick up’ protons
