DSM Criteria: panic attack
A discrete period of intense fear or discomfort in which four (or more) of the following symptoms developed abruptly and reached a peak within 10 minutes. Palpitations pounding hear accelerated hear rate sweating trembling shaking sensations of shortness of breath or smothering geeling of choking chest pain of discomfort nausea or abdominal distress fear of dying fear of losing control of going crazy chills or hot flushes
Hyperventalate
causes blood to be more acidic, causes changes in blood flow to the brain, lightheaded, dizzy, derealization,
Panic disorder
more serious than panic attack. In panic disorder the attack keep happeneing and are unexpected. The person does not know when it is going to happen. It becomes DISABLEING. Person starts avoiding situations where panic attack might happen.
