  • Becomes king in 1042
  • Helps to build Westminster Abbey in England
  • Most of his reign is peaceful. Trade and finance are good

Battle of Hastings

A

Who: Norman-French Army (William) vs English Anglo-Saxon Army (Harold)
When: October 14, 1066
Where: Hastings, England
Battle lasts one day. Harold is killed, English army collapses. Victory for William. Builds a church on spot where Harold dies.
