Why did John say they declare unto them what they have seen and heard?
So that they may also have fellowship with them; and the Father and his Son Jesus Christ
Why did John say they were writing these things?
So that their Joy may be complete
What is the message that they have heard from Jesus and declare to them:
God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in him
What are you doing if you say you have fellowship with him and yet walk in darkness?
We are lying and are not practicing the truth.
What do you have if you walk in the light as he himself is in the light?
We have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin
What are you doing if we say we have no sin in us?
We are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us
What will happen if we confess our sins?
He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
What are you doing if we say we have not sinned? (Regarding God)
We make him a liar and his word is not in us
What reason did John give his “little children” for writing them these things?
So that they may not sin
Who is the advocate with the Father if anyone does sin?
Jesus Christ the righteous one
Who is Jesus Christ the righteous one?
The atoning sacrifice for our sins and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world
How do we know that we know him?
If we keep his commands
The one who says he remains in him should walk just as he walked
The one who says, “I have come to know him,” and yet doesn’t keep his commands is what?

What does John tell his “dear friends” he is writing them?
Not a new command but an old command that they have had from the beginning
What is the old command?
The word they have heard
Why is the new command his is writing true in Jesus and in us?
Because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining
Who is still in the darkness until now?
The one who says he is in the light but hates his brother or sister
Who remains in the light and what is there no cause for?
The one who loves his brother or sister;
Stumbling in him
The one who hates his brother or sister is in what?
In the darkness, walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he’s going because the darkness has blinded his eyes
Why is John writing to the little children?
Since their sins have been forgiven in account of his name
Why is John writing to the fathers?
Because they have come to know the one who is from the beginning
Why is John writing to the young men?
Because they have conquered the evil one
Because they are strong
God’s word remains in them
Why is John writing to the children?
Because they have come to know the Father
The love of the Father is not in who?
Anyone who loves the world
What is not from the father but from the world?
Everything in the world-
Lust of the flesh
Lust of the eyes
Pride in one’s possession
What passes away and what remains forever?
The world with its lusts is passing away
The one who does the will of God remains
By what do we know that it is the last hour?
The antichrist is coming and even now many have come

The promise that he himself made to us:

Why does John tell the “little children” to remain in Jesus?
So that when he appears they may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming
