1/29/2024 RATES WITH TEMPERATURE & ARRHENIUS EQUATION Flashcards
Generally, how does activation energy affect the rate of a reaction?
Generally, the greater the activation energy, the slower the reaction.
How does temperature affect the rate constant for any reaction?
As temperature increases, the rate constant will increase (because concentration changes faster!).
What is Collision Theory (of dating)? (What conditions facilitate a reaction??)
- Atoms/molecules MUST COLLIDE
- Atoms/molecules MUST BE PROPERLY ORIENTED
- Atoms/molecules MUST HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY
(single bond=dating)
(double bond=engaged)
(triple bond=marriage!)
Why do exothermic reactions release energy?
Because the products are more stable than the reactants
(think of reaction pathway / activation energy graph)
Are the products more or less stable than the reactants in endothermic reactions?
Products are less stable than the reactants in endothermic reactions
(think of reaction pathway / activation energy graph)
