A community of plants and animals that depend upon one another, and their surrounding, for survival. It plays a significant role because it makes it possible for plants and animals to survive.
Ecosystem
The line circling the earth midway between the north and south poles. It divides the earth into hemispheres, the northern and southern
Equator
Half of a sphere or globe, as in the earth’s Northern and Southern hemispheres.
Hemisphere
The study of the interrelationship between people and their physical environment; it is another theme of geography. Geographers examine the ways people use their environment, how and why they have changed it, and the consequences.
Human environmental interaction
The distance north or south of the equator, measured in degrees.
Latitude
A particular place/area with physical and human meaning
Place
The line of the global grid running from the North Pole to the South Pole at Greenwich, England. It is the starting point for measuring degrees of east and west longitude.
Prime meridian
The exact location of a place on the earth described by global coordinates.
Absolute location
A location in relation to other places.
Relative location
The study of weather and weather forecasting.
Meteorology
The study of human activities and their relationship to the cultural and physical environments.
