presenting of two contrasting images, ideas are balanced by words, phrases, or clause to be or not to be
Antithesis
the art of effective or persuasive speech, especially the use of figures of speech and other techniques
Rhetoric
word or phrase used in everyday language, informal speech or writing
Colloquialism
words suggesting meaning based on the association in the readers mind with it
Connotation
repetition of identical consonant sounds within two or more words in close proximity
Consonance
descriptive writing that greatly exaggerates a specific feature of a persons appearance or facet of personality
Caricature
the quality of a piece of writing in which all parts contribute to the development of the central idea
Coherence
short often witty statement about life or a principle of truth
Aphorism
the device of calling out to an imaginary, dead, or absent person or thing or personified abstraction
Apostrophe
hard, awkward, or dissonant sounds used deliberately in poetry or prose

enumeration

Parallelism

allusion
a figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with something that is closely related

Epistrophe
stylistic device that intentionally eliminates conjunctions, usually with commas
