1-2) DC-Resistors & Resistance Flashcards
What is a resistor?
Resistors are electrical devices that manage flow of current through a circuit, creating a voltage drop between two points.
How does a thermistor not obey Ohm’s Law?
Thermistors have a lower resistance at higher temperatures. They let more current flow through them at higher temperatures.
How does a LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) not obey Ohm’s Law?
Light dependent resistors have a lower resistance when there is more light.
How does a diode not obey Ohm’s Law?
A diode lets the current flow one way only, in the direction of the arrow. This means that is has a low resistance when the current is flowing in the direction of the arrow, but very high resistance when the current tries to go in the other direction (reverse bias).
What are 4 ways to identify the value of a fixed resistor?
- Axial Color Code
- Part Number
- Base Color Code
- Direct Measurement
What is represented by each band on a 4-band resistor?
- 1st significant digit
- 2nd significant digit
- Multiplier
- Resistor Tolerance
What is represented by each band on a 5-band resistor?
- 1st significant digit
- 2nd significant digit
- 3rd significant digit
- Multiplier
- Resistance Tolerance
