What is ecology?
Ecology is the study of the relationship between living organisms and their environment.
What is an ecologist?
Someone who studies ecology
What are the 4 things all living organisms need?
Food, water, habitat, and gas exchange.
What are the two types of adaptations?
Structural - which are inherited
Behavioral - which are learned
What is an ecosystem?
The interaction between biotic and abiotic things.
What is biotic?
Live - was once alive, will be alive, or is alive
What is abiotic?
Not alive - was never alive, never will be alive, is not alive
What is symbiosis?
When 2 organisms have a relationship within an ecosystem
What are the 3 types of symbiotic relationships?
Mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism
What is mutualism?
Both organisms benefit
What is commensalism?
One organism benefits, the other is neither helped nor harmed
What is parasitism?
One organism benefits and the other is harmed
What is a need?
Needs are basic survival
What is a want?
Wants are things that make survival more comfortable or enjoyable.
