Health
It is a constant stay of health, which means the ability to keep on striving to improve ourselves to maintain our health status.
Since nothing is prefect in the world, there will always be something that you can improve on with your health.
Wellness
- It is related to body structure and its physiology.
- It refers to normal functioning of all organs and systems of body resulting in harmonies functioning of the body.
- Signs of this health in individual are: “ a good complexion, a clear skin, bright eyes, not too fat, a good appetite, sound sleep and smooth easily co- ordinated body movement.
Physical Dimension
▪It is related to the mind and refers to normal functioning of mind not merely the absence of mental illness.
▪The characteristics
1. He is free from internal conflicts and tensions.
2. He is able to feel a part of others.
3. He is well adjusted and able to meet the demands of life .
Mental Dimension
▪It is defined as the quality and quantity of individual’s interpersonal ties and the extent of involvement with the community.
▪Refers to the abilities that enables the individual to become a whole person in the existing social nature.
Social Dimension
▪It refers to believe in the super natural aspects of universe which help individual to seek meaning and purpose in life, to resolve internal as well as external conflicts.
Spiritual Dimension
•Understanding and respecting your feelings, values, and attitudes
•Appreciating the feelings of others
•Managing your emotions in a constructive way
•Feeling positive and enthusiastic about your life
Emotional Dimension
It is a part of the human existence.
▪The importance of this dimension is exposed when individuals suddenly lose their jobs.
•Preparing for and participating in work that provides personal satisfaction and life enrichment that is consistent with your values, goals, and lifestyle
•Contributing your unique gifts, skills, and talents to work that is personally meaningful and rewarding.
Vocational / Occupational Dimension
▪The component of wellness includes the ability to promote health measures that improve the standard of living and quality of life in the community, including laws and agencies that safeguard the physical environment.
▪Understanding how your social, natural, and built environments affect your health and well-being.
▪Being aware of the unstable state of the earth and the effects of your daily habits on the physical environment.
▪Demonstrating commitment to a healthy planet.
Environmental Dimension
▪ It is one of the intrinsic determinant of health. It includes the factors such as:
▪1. Genetic inheritance
▪2. Age
▪3. Race
▪4. Self concept
Human Biology
It affects illness susceptibility as well as behaviour. Infants and elderly persons are more susceptible to infection.
Age
It affect health because of different culture values and attitudes e.g sickle cell anaemia is more common in Africans.
Racial Factors
It implies individual self perception of his or her physical, intellectual and social abilities.
Self concept
is one of the extrinsic factor which influence health and wellness of human beings it may be referred to as micro and macro environment.
Environment
It refers to the personal environment
Micro Environment
It influences physical characteristics and intellectual potentials of an individual. Person with desirable physical characteristics and intellectual potentialities receive positive interaction and re- enforcement from people around him.
Genetic Inheritance
it refers to the external environment which is outside the home environment.
Macro Environment
A component of environment is comprised of housing and building structures and wide variety of physical substances that affect health. These includes atmosphere, gravity, light, temperature, humidity, solar radiation etc.
Physical Environment
A component of environment that is comprised of plant and animal kingdom which help in maintaining ecosystem and thereby health of individual.
Biological Environment
A component of environment that includes other people and social institution, sociocultural events, religious beliefs, moral and ethical values and social rules and regulations.
Social Environment
