to win us to our harm, / The instruments of darkness tell us truths
Banquo referring to the supernatural as instruments of darkness. He is warning Macbeth to not trust the witches. He is aware.
nothing is, / But what is not
Appearance versus reality, macbeth thinking about murdering king duncan. It is ambiguous and a sign of unclear thoughts - nothing exists except that which is non-existent.
This supernatural solociting / Cannot be ill, cannot be good.
Macbeth is torn about his encounter with the supernatural
If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me
Without my stir.
Macbeth saying that he will not lift a finger if he’s distance to be King as if it’s meant to be it will be. Fate versus free will
My dull brain was wrought / With things forgotten
Macbeth said that he was lost in thought when in reality, he was thinking of the witches. This is the beginning of his honesty slipping away.
There’s no art / to find the mind’s construction in the face.
King Duncan, talking about how you would never judge someone’s true intentions from just looking at them
