Pipets:
- holds or contains particular volume but not dispense that exact volume
- will dispense the volume indicated
- has etched rings and last drop is expelled
- no etched rings and allows liquid to drain by gravity
Transfer Pipette

Why should mouth pipetting be avoided
It should be avoided due to contamination and lack of precision. Mouth pipetting has the risk of ingesting or inhaling the toxic chemicals which can cause immediate harm or long term issue. It can also introduce contaminants such as saliva to the sample which can compromise the reliability of results.
In relation to pipetting, what is parallax error?
It is the misalignment of persons eye with the meniscus of pipette. This occurs when operators eye is not aligned with meniscus of the liquid in the pipette which can cause volume measurement inaccuracies.
Differentiate gravimetric from spectrophometric method
They both verify the accuracy and precision of pipette volumes. Gravimetric measures the accuracy by counting the weight of the liquids that are released, which are usually water or standard solution. While, spectrophometry measures the absorbance of colored solution
Why should pipets be drained in vertical position
It is important for reducing residual liquid retention, ensuring precise volume distribution, and avoiding volume discrepancies.
