1 Flashcards
Experiment
Experiments are a type of research method where the researcher manipulates one variable (independent variable) to determine its effect on another variable (dependent variable).
Correlation
a type of research design that looks at the relationships between two or more variables. suggests there is a relationship between academic success and a person’s self-esteem.
Naturalistic observation
unhindered observations of animals or people in their natural environment
Case study
one individual or group is studied in
depth in the hope of revealing some universal truth
Meta-analysis
Statistical analysis that combines the results of multiple scientific studies, providing a more precise estimate
of the effect size based on increased power and resolution
Operation definition
describes behaviou`r so that it is observable and measurable
Mode
most frequently occurring score
Mean
average
median
he middle score in a distribution (half above, half below)
Range
difference between highest and lowest scores
Percentile
A measure that indicates the value below which a given percentage of observations in a group of observations fall
Standard Deviation
A measure of the amount of variation or dispersion in a set of values, indicating how spread out the values are around the mean
Correlation Coefficient
A statistical measure that describes
the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables
Skewness
the direction in which a non-symmetrical distribution of data is leaning
statistical significance
the likely probability that random chance was not responsible for the results of a study
